For my thesis I developed a prototype that helps children through their fear of the dark. The prototype, which I called “Pepijn Het Nachtkonijn” targets older children with fear of the dark and also their parents.
The prototype is multifunctional: first of all it has a few functions to ease frightened children, like music and light that reacts to their sleep pattern. Secondly it monitors their sleep pattern. This data is transferred to the computer of their parents, so they can respond to the fear of their child accordingly.
Of course, research is key before developing a prototype. I researched fear in general, childhood fears, fear of the dark, tools used to tackle fear and other useful case studies.
So my thesis “Pepijn Het Nachtkonijn” was the final chapter in getting my master’s, but I went a completely different way for my bachelor thesis, as I focused on the promotion of ECHO’s new product, DomoDeck.
